Dat's Journey

Dat joined Dorothea’s Project Legacy 3 in 11th-grade summer and remains active as the 12th grade concludes, showcasing remarkable energy despite his small stature.

His family comprises four members, living in a small house susceptible to flooding during the rainy season. His father, the breadwinner at 46 years old, is a farmer. Despite dealing with spinal degeneration and high blood pressure, he works tirelessly to maximize his earnings. Dat's mother, born with a congenital abnormality making it difficult for her to walk, relies on crutches, yet she actively contributes to the family's income. Every afternoon, after her husband purchases green tea leaves, bamboo shoots, vegetables, and more, she assists in their preparation. In the mornings, she rises early to sell the goods at the market.

Dat helps with household chores, cooks, and drives his sister to school. While he used to gather rice during harvest, he stopped due to the widespread use of harvesters in families. In his free time, he mows the lawn and helps his mother prepare items for sale. Despite the challenges of studying, he consistently exhibits incredible energy and strives to excel in classes to support his parents. Last school year, through determination and effort, he achieved excellent student status—a worthy result of his endeavors.

Thanks to the community class teachers, who were incredibly supportive and provided clear, engaging lessons, I have made significant progress in my studies, transitioning from a good student to an excellent one. They continuously offer courage and hope, instilling an inspiring spirit that fosters trust in a bright future. I express my gratitude to the teachers for their dedication, the Giving Back to Kids organization, and the sponsors who created Dorothea’s Project Legacy 3. This initiative aids individuals like me who are economically disadvantaged in gaining essential knowledge for their studies and life. I am committed to becoming a policeman for the benefit of society. Thank you so much.
